Visa Application Fee ($185)

Purpose: Processes your visa application with the U.S. Department of State

Search "[your country] U.S. Embassy visa fees" to find specific payment instructions for your location.

Payment methods vary by country:

  • Online credit card payment

  • In-person bank payment

  • Electronic bank transfer

  • Cash payment at designated banks

Important: The payment process differs significantly by country. Some embassies require payment before scheduling your interview; others allow scheduling first. Verify the specific requirements for your embassy.

Visa Integrity Fee ($250)

New requirement effective October 1, 2025

Purpose: This fee supports visa integrity measures and border security programs

Who pays: All nonimmigrant visa applicants, including F-1 students

When to pay: During the visa application process at the embassy/consulate

Payment method: Determined by each U.S. embassy/consulate (typically paid together with visa application fee)

Important note on refunds:

The Visa Integrity Fee may be refundable if you:

  • Fully comply with all terms and conditions of your F-1 status

  • Depart the United States by your authorized end date (including grace periods)

  • Maintain lawful status throughout your stay

The refund is not automatic.

You would need to request it after departure and demonstrate full compliance. Specific procedures for requesting refunds have not yet been published.

For planning purposes, treat this as a non-refundable fee.

After Payment

What you receive: Payment receipt(s) with reference or confirmation number(s)

Save these receipts. You'll need the reference numbers to schedule your interview appointment.
